Warhammer 40K Escalation League

Warhammer 40 Escalation League

Warhammer 40K Escalation League

The Escalation League begins January 2, 2012 and runs through the end of June, 2012.  The idea of this League is to gradually build a new 40K army in a paced but fun and relatively casual manner.  Beginners are welcome; so are players who already have large 40K armies.

The League Commissioner is Ron Palmatary.  Ron will handle record-keeping, monthly standings and distribution of prizes.  The Commissioner reserves the right to alter League rules, including banning certain figures, as might become appropriate.  Rules disputes should be worked out by the players.  If you can’t get a neutral third party to make a ruling, just roll a die.  Remember this League is primarily for casual enjoyment.  Your reputation as a fun and fair gamer is worth much more than any prize or bragging rights derived from winning a particular game.

Choose a faction and start the first month with a 500-point limit.  Choose carefully as you are allowed only ONE faction change throughout the League.  The following restrictions apply for all armies for the first two months of the League (500 & 800 pts):

1. No 2+ armor saves.

2. No characters with 4+ wounds.

3. No special characters.

4.  No vehicles with a combined armor (4 sides) of 44 or more (Necrons must count their Quantum Shielding).

5. No more than one each of Elite, Fast Attack, and/or Heavy Support units.

All of the above restrictions are lifted for armies of 1,100 points or higher.  However, all armies must have 1 HQ and 2 troops at all times except that this requirement is reduced to 1 HQ and 1 Troop for battles at 500 pts.

SCHEDULE:          January – 500 pts.

                                February – 800 pts.

                                March – 1,100 pts.

                                April – 1,400 pts.

                                May – 1,700 pts.

                                June – 2,000 pts.

Entry into the League is a $30 or more purchase that is specific to the army you are playing.  All your “League” purchases of Games Workshop figures (not paint or other accessories) including your first one get a minimum 5% discount off our already discounted price (military discounts or store sales may supersede this discount).  Note that this applies only to figures used in your League codex and/or the Codex for your League army.  Be sure to identify all League purchases at the register not only for the 5% discount but also so that we may track them in our League records.   Instead of building a new army, you may choose to play an existing army.  For these participants the entry fee is $20.

All League games must be played on the premises of Game HQ.  There is no set “League” night at this time.  However, our Game Rooms are open until midnight on Wednesdays through Saturdays, so there is plenty of time and space to play League games.  A roster of League players with names, telephone numbers and/or email addresses will be kept so that you may contact players for games.  You may not play the same opponent more than twice per month.  If you do, the most recent game(s) will be disregarded.

Players are free to agree amongst themselves as to terrain, mission and deployment zones.  If no agreement is made, then roll 2d6 and alternate placing that many pieces of terrain.  Then randomly select a mission and a deployment zone.  The League Commissioner may from time to time announce special League scenarios that will provide bonus points.

All League games must be reported on the League Reporting Form available at the Game HQ Register.  You will get 3 points for a win, 2 points for a draw, and 1 point for a loss (Hey, at least you played a game!).  You may add one point to your score if your army is fully painted (primed with at least three colors).  There will be a box in the Game Room to drop off your completed forms.  Please be careful to fill out your reporting form completely.  Unsigned, undated, or illegible forms will be disregarded.

You may choose a painted figure from your army as a “Mascot.”  All mascots will be displayed in the glass case at Game HQ.  Balloting will be open to all Game HQ customers (one vote per person per month) and the “coolest” mascot figure will win a $5 Game HQ coin.  Once a mascot wins it will be retired from the competition.

On the first Tuesday of each Month, the League Commissioner will post standings and prizes.  The player with the most points gets a $10 Game HQ chip.  Second place gets $5.  Points are reset each month for these prizes.  The player with the coolest mascot gets $5.  At the end of June, we will determine a League Champion based on overall points.  The prize will be $50 for first place and $25 for second place in store credit.
